Waiting for elective heart surgery can be a highly stressful time in a person’s life. Concerns about the risks associated with the surgery, uncertainty about the surgery date, and the recovery time are among the many thoughts people have while waiting.

In this webinar, you will hear about findings from a research study exploring experiences, perceptions and preferences of patients awaiting heart surgery at four prestigious NHS hospitals: Royal Brompton, Harefield, St Thomas’ and King’s College.

This study used an online survey to collect information from participants. The survey was developed in collaboration with experts with lived experience, clinicians and researchers from the King’s Improvement Science (KIS) programme at King’s College London. King's Improvement Science works closely with NIHR ARC South London.

During the webinar we will talk about:

  • The impact that waiting for heart surgery has on daily life
  • The emotional journey of patients on the waiting list
  • Patient priorities for their upcoming surgeries
  • Potential suggestions for improving the experience of waiting for surgery
