Our training includes tailored courses in specialist fields such as implementation and improvement science, as well as training in the latest techniques used in applied health and care research.
We will also provide support for integrated training across the academic pathway.
Pre-doctoral support:
- PgCert Research Skills & Methods - aimed at healthcare professionals, social care practitioners and researchers. The course is held at St George's, University of London.
- MRes Clinical Research - aimed at health and social care professionals. The course is held at St George's University of London.
- We also host NIHR/HEE pre-doctoral bridging fellows in the Faculty of Health Social Care and Education at Kingston University and St George's, University of London. We provide support for applicants and award holders of schemes such as the NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic Bridging which funds non-medical clinical academics to build on their previous academic training and to develop proposals for a pre or post-doctoral award, and take the next step in their clinical academic career.
We will enhance our doctoral training environment by fostering organisational links between
our graduate schools, doctoral training partnerships and centres. Cross-institutional cohort activities will include our Applied Health Research PhD Summer School.
Postdoctoral support
We will participate in NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellowship and Advanced Fellowship programmes; and Heath Foundation-funded fellowships at The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute, providing personalised support by developing our own ARC South London academy to supplement the support of the NIHR Academy.
Implementation Science Masterclass
Our team runs the annual Implementation Science Masterclass which is held at King's College London. The Implementation Science Masterclass is a two-day course for health professionals, researchers, patients and service users who aim to ensure health services routinely offer treatment and care that is based on the most recent research evidence and quality improvement principles.
The Masterclass includes lectures from world-renowned experts in the field, small group workshops facilitated by leading researchers, and advice on how to work more effectively on your own implementation projects. If you are a researcher, health professional, patient or service user involved in an implementation project within health services, or planning to carry out, or to evaluate one, then this Masterclass will be of interest to you. The Masterclass was held online in 2022. Find out more about the online Masterclass.
Implementation Science Annual Research Conference
This annual conference showcases the latest research in the field of implementation science applied to health and social care. This is the only research conference dedicated to implementation science to be held in the UK. Now in its fifth year, the 2022 conference was held as a virtual conference on the 14 and 15 July 2022.
Short online course on implementation science
In October 2022, we launched a new online module for health and social care practitioners, policymakers and researchers interested in learning more about implementation science, and how it can improve health and social care services.
The CPD-accredited module is delivered over six weeks. It was created by a team of experts at NIHR ARC South London and the University of East Anglia.
Register for the autumn 2024 course.
