King's College London and the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) invite you to the launch of the findings from the ASPEN study into maternal suicide in the perinatal period.

Background

The most recent confidential enquiry into maternal deaths found that suicide remains the leading cause of maternal death six weeks to a year after birth. There is also clear evidence of the inequalities and disparities which affect women’s outcomes.

Despite this, there is a lack of research into the factors leading up to suicide during this time, particularly women’s interactions with healthcare services, their experiences and needs.

About the ASPEN study

The Attempted Suicide in the Perinatal Period (ASPEN) study explores the experiences of women who had attempted suicide during the perinatal period, and that of their partner, friends, or family members. A better understanding of suicide attempts and self-harm can further our understanding of the difficulties these women are experiencing and help inform future prevention strategies.

The online launch event will look at this new research and create a space to discuss together how we can achieve meaningful change for women, babies and families.
