The Lambeth HEART team have visited Health and Wellbeing Hubs, schools, community spaces and community organisations to engage residents and introduce the programme. In addition to this, two workshops were organised specifically targeted towards representatives of the Voluntary sector, Community Organisations, Faith groups and social enterprises (VCSFE) within Lambeth. 33 representatives from Lambeth community organisations attended the workshops. Feedback from attendees of the events was mostly positive.

Lambeth HEART community engagement meeting

Brilliant!! I really enjoyed being part of this – the food, warmth, humour, connection, location and hearing the conversations

The session was interesting and engaging, a good balance of visual and practical activities.

Planning is underway for the next phase of engagement in the community, and this will feature the first Community Knowledge Network meeting. This meeting is being organised with the aim of bringing together a group of local residents to work collaboratively with Lambeth HEART to co-design and co-produce the network. More exciting events have been arranged to engage residents of all age groups including some specially put together for the communities that are seldom heard. Wellbeing and creative activities will be incorporated into these community engagement events to invite interaction and boost participation from the community.

Lambeth HEART took the opportunity to take time out of regular work activities to spend time giving back to the community through volunteering with homeless and vulnerable people at the Ace of Clubs day centre in Clapham. The day was spent preparing and serving healthy meals to those in need at the centre. The centre provides hot meals to the community five days a week and are always looking for volunteers to assist them- as they provide up to 160 meals in a session.

Lambeth HEART is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to enable local authorities to become more research active and embed a culture of evidence-based decision making.  ARC South London researchers worked with the public health team at Lambeth Council in their successful bid to develop health and wellbeing research.
