The new NIHR Policy Research Unit for palliative and end of life care will support policymakers to improve care, and reduce inequalities, for children and adults affected by life-limiting illnesses, and their families and carers. It will be led by Prof Katherine Sleeman, Cicely Saunders Institute, ARC South London palliative and end of life care theme.

A new Policy Research Unit for addictions, co-led by Prof Ann McNeill, professor of tobacco addiction, will examine addictive products, as well as the interactions between them and examine policies to prevent their harms.

The NIHR Policy Research Unit in Health and Social Care Workforce, which includes ARC South London’s social care theme has had its funding renewed for another five years.

Dr Johnny Downs, an NIHR clinician scientist at the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent lead, Centre for Translational Informatics, ARC South London’s informatics theme, has been named as a co-investigator on the NIHR Children and Families Policy Research Unit at UCL.

The award is part of a £100m funding boost to 20 new Policy Research Units across England, funded by the NIHR’s Policy Research Programme.
