The Technical Advisory Group will advise the WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on matters relating to mental health, neurological disorders, substance use and addictive behaviours.

In the context of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) agenda – a call to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of all people – the group will support WHO’s leading role in advancing SDG 2030 health-related targets, especially those on promoting mental health and wellbeing, and strengthening the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

The findings and recommendations of the Technical Advisory Group will be presented to WHO Secretariat and to United Nations Member States worldwide.

This appointment is a great honour and I very much look forward to this opportunity to make an active contribution to improving global mental health
